Today we attended the FMCA rally orientation for “first time attendees”. We met up with a large group of “first timers” eager to get first hand knowledge from the rally organizers and officers. The orientation meeting was the only event planned for today. RV’s continue to arrive and the parking lots are getting fuller by the hour.
Back at the RV, Ken wanted to wash the jeep. It started raining before he got started, but, the rain did not stop him. In fact it helped out with the rinse…After all, we are suppose to be conserving water!
Later in the day we decided to take a jeep ride on the McKenzie Pass Scenic Byway. The McKenzie Pass begins West of Sisters, OR. As we neared the Pass, it started raining and the temperature dropped to a chilly 60 degrees. We continued on the road, driving through Lava Fields. The dark skies combined with the lava made everything seem so black. Because of the darkness, my pictures are horrible! At the Summit, we could see the Dee Wright Observatory, an open shelter built of lava rock. It was too windy, wet, and cold for us to climb to the top. Maybe another time! On a clear day, we would have had a an excellent view of volcanic formations, include in Three Sisters, Mt. Washington, and Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood. Not today!
It continued to rain and we returned to our RV to prepare for Day 1 of the Rally!
