Oregon Coast – Day 3

10 Aug

August 9, 2014

We found out this morning, that this weekend is Oregon Coast’s Biggest Cook-Off Weekend. BBQ teams from all over the Northwest gather to see who is the champion Tuna grill master. They all compete for $2,000 in prize money. The best part was that it was taking place within walking distance of our RV Park. The cost was $15/person for all you can eat samples from the amazing Albacore Tuna Chefs! I didn’t know that Tuna could taste so good! We had lots of fun tasting all the tuna recipes. Our favorites were the Ten Spice Dry Rubbed Tuna served with spicy watermelon BBQ sauce and pineapple mango salsa, and The Cajun Tuna.

After our Tuna Tasting, we went to Newport’s Historic Bayfront. large. The Bayfront has many shops and restaurants and was very crowded. We were lucky to find a parking space! We stopped to view the sea lions…their barking sounds are familiar since we can hear them at our RV park. At the pier, we watched as the fisherman were getting their fish cleaned and filleted. Someone’s freezer will be full of Salmon Tonight!

The day ended with a drive to the beach to catch a Oregon Sunset! It was very windy and cold, so we couldn’t (or didn’t want to) go down to the beach. The sunset was pretty!

Tomorrow…last day in Newport
