Oregon Coast – Day 2

10 Aug

August 8, 2014

Today was another beautiful, sunny day along the Oregon Coast.  The daytime temperature was a cool 64 degrees!  We thought it was sweatshirt weather, but, we saw folks wearing every imaginable type of attire…shorts, winter coats, hats, jeans, and of course, bathing suits! We drove North on the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway from Newport to Astoria. The Byway passed temperate rain forests, rugged rocky coastlines, and several resort towns.

In Lincoln City, we stopped for gas.  What?  Gas stations in Oregon are Full Service!  Up the road we crossed the 45th parallel.  This is the midway pint between the equator and the North Pole.

We drove through Tillamook( home of the Tillamook Cheese Factory), Rockaway Beach(summer resort with 7 miles of sandy beach), Cannon Beach (an active arts community), Seaside ( a popular tourist destination known for its Promenade), and Astoria( northernmost and oldest city on the Oregon Coast).

Astoria, was the end of our route and time for dinner.  We had dinner at the Ship Inn overlooking the Columbia River.

On the return trip we made a quick stop at Hug Beach and briefly walked in the sand.  We continued driving south as the sun was getting closer to sunset.  We found a location close to our RV Park to view the sunset.  The view was not perfect, so, we will look for a better location tomorrow.
