August 5-12, 2026
We left Summerfield, Florida, on a beautiful morning. It was sunny and 79 degrees, although the 86% humidity reminded us that we were definitely back in Florida!
We continued driving south and eventually arrived at Sun Retreats Estero Bay RV Park. This is the same RV park where we have always stayed when visiting Fort Myers. There was one big difference this time—the park had new owners and a new name.

We were expecting to see lots of exciting “new” amenities with the change in ownership. But once we arrived, it seemed that most things were pretty much the same as before. Sometimes a new name doesn’t necessarily mean a lot has changed!
The biggest positive for us is the park’s location. It is close to the Misner family home, which makes it very convenient for our visits. Ken’s brother lives in the family home and works nearby, so staying close by makes it easy for us to spend time together.
We had not been back to the family home since 2022, so we were anxious to see it again. When we arrived, it looked much the same as we remembered, although it was clear that the house needed some TLC.
Rather than spending the week sightseeing, we found ourselves putting our time to good use. We spent the entire week working around the house and helping Ken’s brother get things organized. There was plenty to do, and we kept busy each day.
Unfortunately, the Florida weather didn’t cooperate with our plans either. It rained every day, so there was no time for a trip to the beach. We had hoped to enjoy some sunshine and perhaps spend a day relaxing by the Gulf, but the rain had other plans.
We did make a quick drive from Bonita Beach to Fort Myers Beach. There was still much construction taking place since the 2022 Hurricane Ian. I was also able to break away for a few hours and go to my favorite shopping areas.

On our last night in the area, we decided it was time to treat ourselves to dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants, Shrimp Shack. They are known for their delicious shrimp, and we were definitely not disappointed! After a busy week of working around the house, it was a great way to end our visit.
It wasn’t exactly the relaxing Florida getaway we might have imagined, but we were glad to have the opportunity to return to the family home, spend time with Scott(Ken’s brother), and get some much-needed work accomplished.
Until Next time…
