A Relaxing Day in Blue Ridge and Cherry Log

After spending time in Ellijay, we decided to take the short drive north to Blue Ridge, Georgia, a charming mountain town in the North Georgia mountains.

Once we arrived, we drove through downtown until we found a convenient parking spot. The streets were bustling with visitors enjoying the holiday weekend. Our first stop was Huck’s General Store, where we browsed the shelves filled with old-fashioned candy, nostalgic gifts, local products, and unique souvenirs. We found the candy section and filled a bucket with various types of nostalgic candy.  As we walked along the street, it didn’t take us long to dig into the candy bag!

As we drove through town, something immediately caught my eye— Borden trucks with Elsie the Cow painted on the side. I recognized her instantly! My dad worked for Borden Ice Cream when I was growing up, so seeing Elsie brought back a flood of wonderful childhood memories. Some things you just never forget, and I’d recognize Elsie anywhere.

From Blue Ridge, we continued a few miles to the tiny (and I mean tiny) community of Cherry Log for lunch at the famous Pink Pig. The restaurant has become a favorite destination for both locals and travelers, serving delicious barbecue in a relaxed mountain setting. It was the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal before heading back toward our campground.

We returned to our RV resort, ready for a quiet Fourth of July celebration. Rather than fighting the crowds, we moved outside to our picnic table to see if we could view fireworks from our site. The air had cooled off, the campground was peaceful, and every so often colorful fireworks appeared above the trees in the distance. We only caught glimpses of a few displays. Sitting beside our new coach, was the perfect way to end another memorable day on our RV adventure.

Sometimes the best travel days aren’t filled with big attractions—they’re simply about discovering charming small towns, enjoying a great meal, and appreciating the simple moments along the way.
