Wyoming/Utah/Idaho

8 Aug

We’ve been moving across the country traveling approximately 300 miles per day.   We need to be in Oregon for our RV Rally that begins on Aug 13.

Continuing on I-80, from Ogallala, we stopped for breakfast in Sidney, NE.  Sidney is located halfway between North Platte,NE and Cheyenne, WY. Sidney is the world headquarters for Cabela’s (outdoor sports store).

As we passed exit 323 on I-80 at Laramie, WY, we could see the giant head of Abraham Lincoln towering over the freeway traffic.   The head is 13.5 feet tall and sits on top of a 30 foot granite pedestal.  You can’t miss it!

In Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, we saw another unusual roadside attraction…a Tee Pee House!  Yes, it is a private home designed to look like a TeePee!

Nearing the end of our day, we passed the Sinclair Oil Refinery in Sinclair,WY.  The refinery began in 1923 as Parco and was renamed Sinclair after the great depression when it was acquired by Sinclair.  The original refinery is still in use today.  We remember the green dinosaur!

We checked into the Western Hills Campground in Rawlins, WY.  There wasn’t much to see or do in Rawlins, but we did stop by the Wyoming State Penitentiary…a historic building!

The scenery and terrain continues to change as we move further west.  From Wyoming to Utah, we drove through the Dry Red Desert and over the Continental Divide.  We ended our day in Brigham City, UT and checked in at the Golden Spike Resort.  This was our third visit to this RV Park and we decided not to venture out into the city.

We continued on I-15 toward Twin Falls, Idaho where we took I-84 to  Caldwell, Idaho.  The terrain was mostly high desert and flat grasslands.  The drive covered aprox. 300 miles with few rest areas or gas stations.  We were glad that we filled our tank before we left Brigham City!

In Caldwell, we checked into the Ambassdor RV Resort.  It was a very nice place with paved streets and paved, long, wide sites.  After a long day in the RV we decided to stay in for the night…again!  It was a beautiful evening for a RV Wash!

Tomorrow…Oregon!
