Cherries

Day 7

July 16, 2019

Cherries BBQ was our only planned activity for our last day in Polson.  We tried their BBQ last year and loved it!  We arrived early, to avoid the rush…so we thought!  The parking lot was full and the drive-thru line was busy.  We wanted to arrive early before they ran out of brisket…mission accomplished

Cherries is basically a double wide trailer turned into a BBQ joint.  They have a drive-thru option, outdoor and indoor seating.  The dining area was small, but, very busy when we arrived.

Their meat was smoked with fruit wood (mostly local cherry wood.)  All the food was made fresh, sides were made fromscrath, and they made seven in-house BBQ sauces.

Today,  Ken and I both ordered the BBQ Brisket Sandwich, Ribbon Fries, Coleslaw, and Drink…it was just as delicious as we remembered!

Last year, we noticed several roadside stands around Flathead Lake that were selling Cherries.  We were too early last year, but, this year our timing seemed perfect.  The best cherries in the world come from Montana…Really?   Montana’s Flathead Lake growing area has the perfect climate;  warm days and crisp cool nights.  There is abundant pure mountain creek water for irrigation and the norhtern latitude provides for long days…perfect for gowing Cherries.

We drove a few miles on the east shore of Flathead Lake where we saw the fruit stands last year.  Unfortunately, none of the stands were open.  We saw several orchards with ripe cherries, but none for sale today.  i guess we will have to buy our Cherries at the grocery store!

We returned to the motorhome to rest up for tomorrow’s trip across the border!
