Upper Colorado River Gorge Scenic Byway

Today we enjoyed the spectacular Upper Colorado River Gorge Scenic Byway. The highway begins at the north end of Moab and continues for 45 miles. The first 13 miles parallel the Colorado River within a narrow section of the gorge. During our drive we enjoyed breathtaking views of the red sandstone cliffs. As the gorge widened, the highway proceeded through an area that we used for shooting locations for several western films and numerous TV commercials. In the distance we could see the Red Rock spires of Fisher Towers. A gravel road led up to a parking lot at the base of the spires. We hiked the Photo Trail to get a close up view. The views were awesome from every direction.

We continued on the road winding further of the River Gorge and exited the gorge to the ghost town of Cisco. I was disappointed in the ghost town since it was more of a dump than a town from the past.

Back at the RV, Ken began mapping out our plan for tomorrows drive.
