A Taste of Music City

After all our travels through the south, it was time to spend a few nights in Nashville, TN. We checked into the Nashville KOA, which would be our home base for four nights while we explored the city.

It had all of the amenities we expect from a KOA; full hook-ups, pull-thru sites, swimming pool, cafe, camp store, playground for kids, and nightly entertainment.

Downtown Nashville: A Taste of Music City

On our second day, after getting settled at the Nashville KOA, we decided it was time to head into downtown Nashville and see a little more of Music City.

We made our way downtown and found plenty to look at as we drove through the streets. Broadway was exactly what we expected—bright signs, honky-tonks, restaurants, and music coming from just about every direction. There was definitely no shortage of activity!

We found a parking space near the river and walked to Broadway.

Of course, music is everywhere. Even when we weren’t inside one of the famous honky-tonks, we could hear live music drifting out onto the streets. It really does live up to its reputation as Music City.

We spent some time taking in the sights and enjoying the atmosphere.  We found Tootsies Orchid Lounge…one of the most famous honky-tonks on Nashville’s Broadway! The name of the bar comes from Tootsie Bess, who bought the bar in 1960. It became a hangout for musicians and songwriters, and many well-known country performers have played there over the years.

We took a seat at the bar and orderd a couple of beers.  The inside is famous for its purple exterior and walls covered with photographs and memorabilia.  It is also famous for it’s live music, with performers playing throughout the day and into the night.  Of course there was live music during our visit and the singers were really good!

We walked both sides of Broadway and stopped at a few stores along the way.  We only made one purchase and it is a Christmas Gift!

Our downtown visit was a fun part of our Nashville adventure. We didn’t have a big agenda—it was just fun to drive around, look at the bars, and watch the people. And downtown Nashville certainly gave us plenty to look at!
