Destination; Illinois
We left Amana, Iowa on Sunday June 18. There were only a few RV’s left in the campground at the end of the rally. After a week of sitting in one location, we were anxious to get “on the road again” and continue our trip east.
Freeway driving is generally smoother and faster but not quite as interesting as the old highway roads. Since we were only driving 200 miles to our destination, we only stopped once to stretch our legs and check fuel prices. In the rest area I noticed several No Smoking signs posted around the parking lot. Have I ever seen those signs before? I don’t think so. The sign said that the rest stop was a no smoking area and smoking was only allowed in personal vehicles. I wonder who enforces that rule at rest stops?
What is day without rain?
As we got closer to our destination, I discoverd that I might not have actually made our campground reservation. I could not find any confirmation or credit card charge for the campground. I called the campground office several times but nobody answered. When we arrived at the campground office, it was confirmed that I did not have a reservation. How did I make that mistake? Lucky for us, they had several spaces open for the night. Needless to say, I checked and re-checked all of our future reservations. We are good to go!
The Kamp Komfort RV Park and Campground in Carlock, IL, was our home for the night. After settling in to our site, we took a quick walk around the park and found two Tiffin motorhomes from the Rally. I can almost bet that we won’t be going to the same places!
Tomorrow we will be in Cicero, IN
Back Home Again in Indiana
Driving through the Indiana countryside, we saw lots of farms, old barns, and CORN…the corn is not quite knee-high yet. The old saying is “knee-high by the fourth of July”! There’s still time!
On to Noblesville, IN to visit the McMichael clan…my family. My brother’s family all lives nearby and we had a chance to see everyone! It was a great visit full of conversation, food, and board games!
We stayed at the White River Campground in Cicero, IN. It is the closest RV Park to my brother’s house. They have continued to make improvements to the park and it is really nice.
Destination: Ohio
We left Cicero around 9:30 and began our drive N towards Fort Wayne, IN. Ken lived in Fort Wayne for 2 years during high school and was very familiar with the route. However, the I-69 on-ramps were closed for many miles. This forced us to take a detour through the countryside and several small towns…Upland, Gas City, Hartford City. Eventually we got back on track and made it to our KOA campground in Toledo, OH.
We made a quick trip to Kroger for last minute groceries and gas for the jeep before settling in for the night.
We are anxious for our Canada border crossing tomorrow!
