The Perfect Day Drive

Today was the perfect day for a drive around Flathead Lake.  Surrounded by mountains on both sides of the lake, we cruised up US Highway 93 on the west side from Polson to Kalispell. and down Route 35 on the east.  This beautiful lake is the result of ice-age glaciers that cut the Flathead Valley and carved this magnificent lake.  Flathead Lake is twenty-seven miles long, fifteen miles wide, and is one of the cleanest lakes in the world for it’s size. The clear water turns a beautiful turquoise blue in the sunlight. The drive around the lake was amazing! As we cruised down the east side of the lake, we passed commercial cherry orchards, crab-apple groves and pumpkin patches.  As usual, we are out of season to experience those delights!

There are a myriad of activities to enjoy;  fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, horseback riding,  and cherry picking.  Unfortunately, we are visiting on the fringe of the summer.  There was not much activity taking place on the lake during our stay.
