It was a very chilly night in Flagstaff! I don’t know what the temperature was, but it was a two blanket night in the RV! We traded in “sheet weather” for “blanket weather” overnight! At least we were prepared for cooler temperatures…just not expecting them so soon!
As we left Flagstaff around 10:00 AM, the weather was sunny and 77 degrees! Our route was highway 89 north to Tuba City, and then highway 160 to the Ute Indian Reservation. Along the way, we saw several Navajo Indian Arts and Crafts booths. Not too many shoppers today!
We passed a coal mine in Kayenta, AZ. The coal is mined in Kayenta Arizona, then transported by a conveyor belt 17 miles long, to the railhead where it is deposited in three large silos. A section of the 17 mile long conveyor belt passes over the highway. From the silos it is loaded on to electric trains that take it around 80 miles on a dedicated track to the Navajo Power Plant near Page. Power from that plant serves Los Angeles and Phoenix.
As we drove along, we kept busy snapping photos of various rock formations and mountains.
The scenery is spectacular in the area near Monument Valley. I love all the rock formations!
It is a long drive through the Indian reservation and even longer when it is extremely windy! Today’s drive seemed like it took longer than expected and we were happy to pull into the RV Park around 4PM. Since we are still settling into our RV routine, we spent some time taking care of some much-needed chores. We ended the day with a quick walk around the RV Park with the sun was setting and the temperature cooling down. We are ready with the blankets tonight!
Tomorrow we drive a short distance to Priest Gulch! We are looking forward to spending four days at the beautiful RV Park on the Delores River.
