Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is known for its abundant wildlife and beautiful mountain scenery, it’s one of the park’s most popular destinations.
When we left the RV park, we didn’t expect how long the trip would take! Between the drive from our RV resort and making our way around the famous 11-mile one-way loop, we spent nearly three hours. Traffic moved at a slow pace, with frequent stops as visitors searched for wildlife or admired the scenery.
Many people come to Cades Cove hoping to spot black bears, wild turkeys, coyotes, and large herds of deer. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us. Rain showers and the heavy traffic seemed to keep most of the animals hidden. Our only wildlife sighting was a single deer quietly standing near the edge of the road.
As we drove along the one-way loop, we could see why Cades Cove is such a treasure part of the Smokies with it’s rolling meadows, historic cabins, split-rail fences, and mountain views.
Back at the RV Park, we had another relaxing end to our day.
We discovered a Buckee’s not far from our campground and decided it was time to try their famous BBQ sandwich. As we approached the exit, we could see that Buckee’s was another popular location. It was almost like arriving at a Costco on a weekend!
The BBQ was delicious!
