Today was our last day in Creede. Tomorrow we will travel to Durango. The route we want to travel takes us over Wolf Creek Pass through Pagosa Springs and on to Durango. We decided to travel to Wolf Creek Pass today to be sure we would be able to drive the RV over tomorrow.
Wolf Creek Pass is a steep mountain pass that falls right along the Continental Divide. The pass gets its name from the nearby Wolf Creek, which begins near the summit.
From the road we could view the Wolf Creek Ski area. The base elevation is 10,300 feet and the longest run is 2 miles. This year the resort closed for the season on April 4. No snow today!
Once we reached the top of the pass, we took a trail off of the highway. From the trail, we had a tremendous view of a waterfall that was actually high above the road. Spectacular!
Back on the main highway, we saw a sign for the Lobo Overlook. It was about 1.5 miles to the overlook. We didn’t see anyone on the road so we were surprised when we reached the top to find a full parking lot!
The Lobo Overlook sits at an elevation 11,761 feet above sea level. It was cloudy, but the panoramic view of the San Juan Mountains was breathtaking.
We didn’t drive down the other side of the mountain today, since, we will make the complete mountain drive tomorrow on our way to Durango.
Tomorrow- Aspen Rose RV Park – Durango, CO
