The sun was shining and it was 68 degrees when we left Ronan, MT, this morning. We drove on Highway 93 through Polson, Kalispell and Whitefish as we headed towards Eureka, MT, located 6 miles from the Canadian border.
We have been monitoring two fires along the Alaska Highway. The Buckingham River Wildfire and The Summit Lake Fire have closed aprox. 180 miles of Alaska Highway off/on for the last week. We have heard stories of RV’s stuck on the road for five days waiting to pass through the burn area. That doesn’t sound fun to us! So, we decided to stay in the USA for a couple more days than originally planned. Hopefully, by the time we get closer to the ALCAN, the fires will be out.
We arrived in Eurkea, MT and checked into The RV Resort at Indian Springs Montana, located 5 miles south of the Canadian border. The RV resort is located within a resort community offering golf, deluxe accommodation suites, and residential homes/lots. During check-in, the RV host assured us that we were in an ideal location for relaxation. We were given a Deluxe Premium space (of course we paid for the deluxe and premium). We were located on the end of a row with lots of space on both sides. I think the host knew what she was talking about!
Later in the evening, we had thunder, lightning, and rain. Nothing more than a quick storm. Later, Ken realized that our air conditioners were not working. My first thought was…”No, not another repeat of our electrical problem in Eastern Canada!!” Soon, he discovered that the electricity was out in the whole park. Whew! Later, walking around we heard some RV generator noise. Running generators in a Full-Hook-Up park is not generally allowed, but, in this case we and others decided it was okay. It wasn’t long until the electricity was restored. It continued to rain sporadically throughout the night and into the morning hours.
Still concerned about the fires on the ALCAN, we decided to stay one more day at Indian Springs before crossing the border.
A quick trip into Eurkea to see if there was anything to see or do was exactly that…Quick! One trip up and down main street and we were done. We did stop at the Tobacco Valley Historical Village. From the parking lot we saw all of the buildings and I snapped some photos.
As we returned to the resort, we took a little side trip to look at some of the homes in the area. They were all quite nice, but, very different from Sun Lakes!
Tomorrow….Canada
