It was still raining when we left The Teton National Park and began our trek towards Arizona. We followed a familiar route along highway 26/89 to Montpelier and south around Bear Lake. The weather had cleared up by the time we passed Bear Lake but we did not stop on this trip. We continued on into Utah to I-15 and stopped for the night in Brigham City. The Golden Spike RV Park is a favorite overnight spot for us and it was lucky that I called to reserve a space. It was another RV Park full for the night!
We continued south on I-15 and stayed another night in Utah…Beaver Utah. The KOA was on the empty side when we checked-in, but, it filled up rapidly as evening approached. It was KOA’s annual “stay one night, get the 2nd night free”. It was hard to pass up such a deal but we were getting anxious to get home.
Leaving Utah, we cut over to highway 89A to Kanab and stopped at Jacob Lake. Jacob Lake is at the crossroad to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. When we checked into the Jacob Lake Forest Service Campground, the weather was beautiful, and we decided to stay for two nights. With our “senior” national park pass, the cost per night was only $9! Old age is not so bad!
The town(if you can call it that) of Jacob Lake consists of the Jacob Lake Inn, a restaurant, lunch counter, gift shop, bakery, and general store; a gas station/garage; campground; and a visitors center. It was a very busy place! Everyone making the 44 mile trip south to the North Rim seemed make a quick stop for something!
On Monday, we packed our lunch and made the drive to the Grand Canyon North Rim. The weather was perfect for the trip! Once at the Rim, we visited the Lodge and the absorbed the views from the outdoor seating area. We also walked down the paved trail to Bright Angel Point Overlook. From this location we could view one of the North Rim’s most spectacular views.
The Grand Canyon North Rim is more remote than the south rim and requires more effort to visit, therefore, fewer visitors make it to the North Side.
On Tuesday morning we packed up and pulled out of the campground towards home. We made it home to Tempe, AZ in the mid afternoon. Amazingly, the weather was partly cloudy, but hot! Later we discovered that the temperatures could reach the 108 mark over the next few days!
We had a great trip that allowing us to visit with family and friends, as well as, exploring many amazing things across this fabulous country. As always, we look forward to our next adventure!
We thought we had escaped the desert heat, but, instead we might find ourselves swimming in our pool!
