Time to Escape the Heat!

Our road trip is starting late this summer! We had some family events to attend and we were able to spend some quality time with our family, both locally and in El Paso, TX.

As of Thursday July 25, there have been 67 days this year where the high temperature has reached at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit in Phoenix, Arizona. Many of those days were in the “100 teens”. As I was preparing to take my last dip in our swimming pool on Wednesday evening, the water temp was 96 degrees! Time to hit the road for our summer adventure!

Flagstaff, AZ was our first stop! It was amazing to reach cooler temperatures by driving just a few hours north. Our next door neighbors, Mike and Doris, have been begging us to stop by their cabin in Munds Park (near Flagstaff). We met them for dinner in Flagstaff on Thursday and then traveled to Munds Park on Friday to see their cabin. We had a fun afternoon hanging out on their deck and then touring the Munds Park community. Who knows….maybe we will trade in our RV for a Cabin?????

I I tell our friends that I am not so fond of Flagstaffs, AZ. It always seems dreary and rainy whenever we stay there. On Friday afternoon, we experienced a torrential downpour complete with hail and flooding. We had a river of water flowing through our campsite! When the storm stopped we had to wait for the water to run off before we could even step outside our RV. Reminds me of our trip last summer!

This morning our campsite was dry we pulled away around 9:15 AM. We drove 265 miles through the Indian Reservation to Cortez, CO. It was a beautiful sunny day as we drove through the familiar landscape. I have hundreds of photos of the area, but, I managed to take a few more!

Tomorrow we will be in Western CO along the Uncompaghre River
