Sisters, Oregon to Newport, Oregon

We got a late start this morning and didn’t get on our way until 10:30 AM.  Leaving Sisters, OR, we continued west on Highway 20 climbing 4,817 feet to the Santiam Pass.  At this point, highway 20 turned into a Scenic Byway… the Over The River and Through the Woods Scenic Byway…and of course, we had to sing! The scenic byway was a 66 mile winding along rushing streams and through thick forest.  The forests were full of Douglas-fir, western hemlock, red cedar, and big leaf maples.  We saw some really large Pine Trees with gigantic trunks and limbs!

By middle afternoon, we arrived on the Central Oregon Coast in the city of Newport.  We checked into the Port of Newport RV Park and Marina and quickly set up our “home” for the next 4 nights.  We are located on the south side of Yaquina Bay and have a view of the Yaquina Bay Bridge from our RV.

Since Oregon is touted as where the forest meets the ocean, we were anxious to get out and see the coastline and beaches.  We drove South on Highway 101, the Pacific Coast Highway.  It is true…the beaches are beautiful and the scenery is spectacular!

Before returning to the RV Park, we stopped at a local fish restaurant and picked up 2 Halibut Fish and Chips dinners.  Halibut is a favorite of ours!
