It was foggy and 57 degrees when we left Madison and started on the highway to Red Wing, Minnesota. We got a few miles down the road when we heard something hit the floor in the living area of the coach. I jumped up expecting something broken to bits on the floor, but instead I found a metal piece from the top of our dining ceiling lamp fixture. It was the critical piece that connects the bulb and shade to the fixture. The fixture was left hanging only by wires. I had to for the next few miles holding the fixture until Ken could find a place to pull over. It took us few minutes to figure out how to put it back together but finally Ken got everything in place. We made a quick check of all the other fixtures and we were back on the road again.
In Red Wing, we checked into the Treasure Island Casino RV Park…nothing fancy, just a parking lot with full hook ups. We didn’t even go the casino.
Red Wing sits on the Mississippi River and is probably a charming town, but, the roads were all under construction making it difficult to do much sightseeing. We drove to the historic downtown and stopped by the Red Wing Shoe Store Museum located inside the Red Wing flagship store. Items from the company’s 110-year history are on display throughout the store and museum, including the world’s largest boot! Chevy Chase doesn’t have anything on us!
