Memories to Cherish

3 Feb

Leaving Navarre Beach, we continued our trek east towards Savannah.  We made one last stop in Kingsland, GA before reaching our destination, Savannah.  The Savannah KOA was our home (at least where we parked) for 5 1/2 weeks while we visited with our daughter Leslie and her family.  During our stay, we had many celebrations; Christmas, our Anniversary, New Years, Gabe’s birthday, Ken’s birthday, Lily’s 100th School Day, and the arrival of Cody Andrew Miritello!

One week after Cody was born, Gabe had to leave for a 3 week training course.  Rotten Timing?  Our job was to help out with the kids while Leslie adjusted to being a Mom of three.  Mornings came around early for this grandma who was not used to getting up while it is still dark outside.  My usual late nights quickly turned into early bedtime.  I feel so blessed to have been able to spend 5 weeks bonding with Cody and getting closer to Lily and Carter.

Ken was able to travel to Fort Meyers to visit his family while I stayed behind in Savannah to help Leslie with the three kiddos.  I think he owes me a few days of relaxation!

We did take time to act as “tourists” and drove into Savannah for a self-guided tour around town and stopped by the Pirates House for Lunch for the famous fried chicken luncheon buffet.  Also, we couldn’t visit the coast without enjoying a fish dinner, so we stopped by Fish Tales…one of our favorite Savannah restaurants!

Many tears were shed as we prepared to say “good-by” and “see ya later”.  We sadly pulled away from the Savannah KOA on Monday Feb. 1.  It was sunny and 67 degrees as we pulled onto highway 84 towards Valdosta, GA.  It was a beautiful drive and the road was great.  We continued past Valdosta to Thomasville, GA before heading southwest on highway 319 to Tallahassee, FL.  Highway 319,  Plantation Parkway,  took us through Plantation Country and past several privately owned plantations.  We continued 30 miles west of Tallahassee to the Triple C Campground.  We even had time to sit outside and enjoy the warm, fresh air!

Tomorrow – Gulf Shores, Alabama
