Leaving Arizona

Day 3

July 12, 2019

We pulled away from our campsite at 9:30AM and continued north.  Continuing on from Jacob Lake, highway 89A descends the west side of the plateau to an area know as the Arizona Strip.

The scenery was beautiful all around!

Eight miles from Jacob Lake, we made a brief stop at the Le Fevre Overlook so I could take a few photos.  The overlook provides a view of the entire “Grand Staircase”.  The Grand Staircase consists of layers of sedimentary rock stretching down from Utah.  The layers go from Bryce Canyon in Utah all the way to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

Unfortunatly, the signage at the overlook was placed at eye level and I couldn’t see over the signs to take photos!  All of my photos were taken through the windshield as we continued driving!

Highway 89A was very steep and curvy!  It was slow driving up the mountain, but, quicker on the decent…just like the bikers in the Tour De France!

Our original plan was to drive to Nephi, UT and stay at a familiar RV Park.  Nephi is home to the Ute Stampe Rodeo.  We attended the rodeo in 2012 and discovered that it was a very popular event.  Of course, this is the weekend of the rodeo…no RV sites available!  Looking at the map, we decided to take I-15 to Beaver, UT.  We were lucky to find a place!

We arrived to the Beaver KOA in the early afternoon giving us an opportunity to enjoy the cooler outdoor temperatures.

Tomorrow, Beaver UT is host to the Crusher in the Tushar road + dirt bike race.  We just might get up early and go check out the start of the race!
