Today we drove to Bar Harbor in hopes of securing a parking space close to the shops and restaurants on Main Street. The village of Bar Harbor is comprised of a network of four main streets and several narrow side roads with parallel parking. Bar Harbor utilizes a paid parking program on these streets. The only way to find a spot is to drive around until there is an opening. Today, we were lucky! We found a space in the heart of Main Street. We fed the meter(card not coins) and were on our way!
Main Street is picturesque and charming thanks to the colorful, clapboard storefronts that house local restaurants and shops.
After shopping, we stopped at the Bar Harbor Beerworks restaurant. It was casual dining with outdoor seating. Our table was located next to the sidewalk so it was good for people watching. I had my usual selection of fish and chips and Ken chose the smashburger. Both were good choices! The restaurant was a great place for a view and a brew (Ken had a brew and I had a Margarita)!
August 21, 2021 – Last Day in Bar Harbor
Today we drove to Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor. We were searching for a restaurant on the water or with water views. We found a couple of places but one looked a little “hokey” and the other one didn’t have any outdoor table availability.
Unexpectedly, we found another lighthouse, the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. Built in 1858, the lighthouse sits atop a rugged, rock cliff. It’s a cylindrical tower attached to the keeper’s house by a short, enclosed passageway.
Leaving the lighthouse, we drove to Bar Harbor in hopes of finding a parking space and restaurant. We were lucky again today and found a parking space near the harbor. We found a restaurant on the water and with a water view…Stewman’s Lobster Pound. We were seated on the outdoor patio at a table right on the harbor. It was a gorgeous day and the weather was perfect for outside dining.
Our Bar Harbor trip has come to an end.
