August 26 – 29, 2014
After staying one night in Mesquite, NV, we continued on to our destination…Las Vegas! The Oasis RV Resort is our Las Vegas “home” for 3 nights. The Oasis has over 600 sites on 46 acres and is located just south of the “strip”.
Since the weather is “hot” during the day, we waited until evening to venture to the “strip”. On the first night, we went to the New York New York casino. We liked the atmosphere inside and out of the hotel/casino. We enjoyed the new outside Plaza experience with bars, restaurants, and retail. It was fun to walk along the plaza and across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Gambling is not really our thing, since we are not very lucky. I lost a little money in the slot machines! It was fun while it lasted!
On our second night, we drove to Fremont Street. It was a great place for “people watching”! We were entertained by a brilliant saxophone player…really great! Elvis was also performing! We saw showgirls and The Chippendales. The Fremont Experience Viva Vision show was Bon Jovi Wanted in Las Vegas. It was better than we thought it would be. One of the newest attractions is the Zip Line. It was fun to watch the people flying high above Fremont Street under the Viva Vision Screen. The highlight of our evening, was playing the slot machines in the Golden Nugget Casino. It was the highlight because I actually won some money!
Today is our last day in Las Vegas. We drove to 713 S. Las Vegas Blvd. to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop…home of the Pawn Stars TV show. We were curious about the shop and had to check it out. It is a small shop and it gets crowded quick. I understand that we were lucky that we didn’t have to stand in line to get in. They had some cool things;, classic art, coins, jewelry, and a c couple of nice motorcycles. The have their own gift shop and probably makes lots of money selling souvenirs.
Next, we walked around the Venetian Hotel/Casino including the Grand Canal Shops. The mall has indoor canals with gondola rides. St. Marks Square is fantastic…the ceiling is painted to give the impression of being outside on a beautiful day!
At the Venetian, I only tried one slot machine and it was not my lucky day! I’ll take the rest of my money home! Ken is much smarter…he didn’t gamble at all!
We wanted to eat lunch at Gilley’s, but there was no one in the restaurant and their menu looked a little heavy for lunch. Next, we stopped at Señor Frogs, but their prices were outrageous for their menu; $13.50 for a Margarita, $17 for a hamburger! We decided to return to the RV and make our own Hamburgers…they were good!
Three days in Las Vegas is enough for us! It is time to head home to Phoenix, tomorrow!
Our Summer Adventure will end when we pull up in front of our Tempe home!
