It was a typical summer day as we drove from Summerfield, FL to Kingsland, GA. The weather changed from sunshine to cloudy to rain and back to sunshine.
After arriving at the KOA at 2;30PM we unhitched and drove to St. Mary’s. St. Mary’s is a coastal community that offers quaint shops and bed & breakfasts. We were hoping to find the Naval Sub Base and get a glimpse of the submarines. No such luck!
Did we find a Pirate Ship? We saw large ship that resembled a Pirate Ship. As we got closer, we learned that It was The Peacemaker. It was built on a riverbank in southern Brazil by an Italian family of boat builders, using traditional methods and the finest tropical hardwoods. The ship which was launched in 1989 was intended to be a private yacht for the family of a Brazilian industrialist. After a short voyage in the Caribbean, the ship was docked in Savannah, Georgia where it languished until purchased by Peacemaker Marine and began life as a sail training vessel and a seagoing representation of the group’s desire to encourage peace and unity around the world. It was a very cool ship and I wish it had been open for tours!
Since there was not much activity in St. Mary’s. we returned to the KOA to rest up for our 2 week stay in Richmond Hill, GA …starting tomorrow!
