Happy Father’s Day! It was 39 degrees when we woke up this morning and 49 degrees when we left the Lake Louise area this morning at 10 AM. By the time we were ready to leave the overflow lot, the population was down to 6 vehicles. It seems that some Rvers like an early start!

Today’s route was highway 93 North (Icefields Parkway) towards Jasper National Park. After a few miles, we had to stop at a gatehouse and pay the Park Fee. The sign said $22, we were only charged $19, but by using our US credit card the fee was $14.01. Again, the credit card is better than Cash!

We enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day to drive through the Rockies. We passed by the Crowfoot Glacier, Bow Lake, and Bridal Veil Falls. We passed several other lakes and drove along the Saskatchewan River. We stopped at Bridal Veil falls to watch the water plummet down the mountainside. As we were returning to the RV, Ken heard water rushing in the near distance…could there be another waterfall? Ken ventured down a path to see what he was hearing. Sure enough there was another waterfall and a better view of the Bridal Veil falls. Of course he didn’t have his phone with him, so, he came back to get mine and went back down to take some video. (I don’t do those steep rocky paths) After looking at the video it was worth the extra trip, for Ken! (unfortunately, the video in it’s current format is too large to post)

As we continued north through the Rockies, the mountains outside my window were so tall that getting good photos was impossible. The images definitely don’t show their tremendous height!

We continued on the Icefields Parway traveling through the Saskatchewan River Valley past the Weeping Wall (waterfall) and Saskatchewan Glacier. It was a beautiful day and we could see everything clearly!

We approached the Columbia Icefield searching for our turnoff to the RV parking area. As we turned into the lot, it appeared to be full. (All those early morning travelers) Luck was on our side and we got the last long parking space…on the end, with a tremendous glacier view! The Columbia Icefield is the largest icemass in the Rocky Mountains. Even though it was 47 degrees, chilly and windy, the glaciers were amazing glistening!

Throughout the day, we watched RVs come and go, Several RVs parked next to us and would temporarily block our view. As evening approached the RV lot has thinned out. We noticed everyone sitting outstide their RVs enjoying the view and the sunshine. Just as we went outside and set up our chairs the sun went behind some clouds. It was too chilly for us! The tourists that remained outside were probably not from the desert!
A few more photos from the Icefield Parkway

We are now inside the RV with our blankets ready for another cold night…34 degrees!
Tomorrow- Continue through Jasper National Park to McBride, BC
