Golden, CO
Our itinerary for today included the Coors Brewery Tour and a jeep drive up Lookout Mountain.
Today was our lucky day! We parked in the Coors Brewery visitor parking lot and took our place in line to wait for the tour bus. There were about 20-25 people already in line and the tour bus holds 14 passengers. Most of the people were in groups and wanted to ride together…so, we got to move up in line and board the next Bus!
The tour bus makes a loop through historic Golden, CO before returning to the brewery for the tour. The driver pointed out historic buildings and provided historical facts about the brewery. It was difficult to see the buildings but the facts were interesting.
Upon entering the Brewery Reception areas, we had to show ID…everyone has to provide an ID to take the tour. Since we were over 21, were received a wristband that enabled us to get free drinks in the hospitality lounge at the end of the tour.
This was our 2nd time on this tour, but, it has changed slightly since our visit 15 years ago. The biggest change was the addition of Audio Handsets instead of live tour guides. A Technological improvement?
On the tour we learned about the malting, brewing, and packaging processes. At the end of the tour we went to the hospitality lounge for Beer sampling. Everyone over 21 with a wristband is allowed 3 glasses of beer. I had my personal quota of one beer and I chose Blue Moon with an orange slice. It was very good! Ken chose Batch 19, Blue Moon Seasonal, and Banquet (original Coors). Before we left, I had to buy our souvenir photo…Ken and I in Coors hats riding on a silver bullet!
After the tour we drove up Lookout Mountain to view the scenery; snow-capped mountains, and the Denver Skyline. It was very cloudy so the view was not perfect. Also, Buffalo Bill, a buffalo hunter and Wild West Show entrepreneur is buried atop Lookout Mountain.
We made it back to our RV before it began to rain. The cloudy sky and rainy weather cooled the temperature drastically. I even needed a sweatshirt when I walked to the clubhouse!
The RV park is quiet…I guess everyone is keeping warm inside their “home”.
Tomorrow – East to Kansas
