After a very lazy morning, we walked a few blocks from our RV park into town. We walked by hotels, gift shops, ice cream shops, and coffee shops while looking for a good place to eat lunch. We discovered the Firehole BBQ. As we entered the restaurant, we could see that it was a very Popular Place! We both ordered the Brisket sandwich…it was Tasty!
In the late afternoon we entered the park to look for wildlife. We drove around the Firehole Lake Drive – a one-way paved road through a section of the Lower Geyser Basin. There were no animals in this area, but, we did see some interesting geysers.
As the rain started, we were heading towards the exit and found ourselves in a very long, slow moving line of traffic. We weren’t sure if there was an animal sighting or if all the cars were in line to exit the park. After quite awhile, the line started moving a little faster and then we saw the hold-up – Elk with their babies! Further up the road, as the rain stopped, we pulled over in front of a large meadow to have our picnic dinner. While we were eating, Ken spotted the Elk Herd in the far distance through the binoculars. I think we were the only one’s that saw the herd. All of a sudden, the herd started running and then lots of cars piled into our parking area. Watching the running Elk Herd was spectacular! When the Elk stopped running, they were in the meadow right in front of our picnic spot. What a great ending to our day!
