It was a beautiful sunny day, at 9;40 AM, when we pulled away from our Tempe, AZ home. It was the earliest trip departure for us in several years…Early in the season and early in the day!
One of the great perks of RV travel, is the ability to stop wherever and whenever we want for food and/or bathroom breaks! We stopped for lunch just before crossing into New Mexico. Lunch was little late today, since we lost 1 hour of time. It was 3PM when we crossed the New Mexico border.
The first day of our trip was very familiar. We saw the big boulder rocks of the Texas Canyon as well as the many road signs. We passed several blowing dust warning signs, but, luckily we did not experience that today!
We drove a lot longer today than usual. We even traveled after dark and I am not sure that we have ever done that in this RV. Since we don’t sleep very well the first night on the road, we decided to keep driving until we got tired and then stop at a rest area, truckstop, or Walmart. The first two truckstops were completely full. At the second truck stop, We got into a “pickle” , and Ken had to back up…not something we want to do in a RV with a tow vehicle! With walkie/talkie radio in hand, I stepped out into the parking lot and directed Ken, while two large Semi’s waited for him to turn around…not something I like to do, either! We found a nice rest area just three miles down the road and settled in for the night. No problem!
