We left Brimley heading towards Mackinaw City and the famous Mackinac Bridge. I checked the bridge information website and discovered that there was a high wind advisory on the bridge. What did that mean? All motorhomes, trailers, and enclosed trucks were advised to stay in the right lane with their flashers turned on and speed restricted to 20 MPH. I continued monitoring the website until we reached the bridge, but, nothing changed. We were allowed to cross for a whopping $19 Toll…$5 per axle on the RV and $4 for the Jeep! Crossing the bridge was easy and uneventful. The only view we had of the bridge was on the bridge. We will have to return another day to see the bridge!

We continued driving towards Petoskey and reached our destination, Petoskey RV Resort, in the early afternoon. What a beautiful RV Park!

Petoskey is a charming lakeside community with spectacular views of the Little Traverse Bay. As well as being known for its views, Victorian architecture, and historic Gaslight Shopping district, it is all known for the Petoskey Stone. Okay, what is a Petoskey Stone? Petoskey stones are actually made of fossilized coral that was abundant in the area before the Ice Age. Glaciers rubbed these coral fossils into smooth stones, which are most easily recognized by the six-sided pattern that crisscrosses the surface. It is the official state stone of Michigan.
While Ken and I were waiting on the Sunset, we met a local man who was snorkeling and hunting for Petoskey Stones. He was nice enough to tell us all about the stones and showed us some stones that he had collected. It is now the state stone of Michigan. Wow…our our own private Petoskey Stone lesson! I don’t think I am lucky enough to find one, so I will do my hunting in the shops!
