Homer, AK – Day 2

Ken had been looking forward to Halibut Fishing ever since we decided to make the trek to Alaska.  Our mission today was to find a full-day fishing charter.  With a recomendation for Inlet Charters from our RV Park hosts, we drove to Homer Spit to make a reservaton. On the Homer Spit boardwalk, we found the charter office and went in to discuss dates, times, and pricing.  No problem booking a reservation for tomorrow, except…we found out that the Sterling Highway was closed and the other folks with reservations might not be able to make the boat! If that turns out to be the case, then Ken would be put on another Charter’s boat. There was nothing to do but wait and see!

There was a cruise ship in port, so, we decided to leave the Spit and drive around exploring the town of Homer.  We drove above Homer on Skyline Drive along the bluffs overlooking Homer.  It was a beautiful drive with scenic overlooks!

Later in the evening (7:30PM), we began to see the smoke layer developing in the sky.  The sun was red as it continued shining through the smoke.  I found it to be very eery!

Our view at 9:45 PM

What will the weather be at 6:30 AM for Ken’s fishing trip?
