The Unofficial Breaking Bad Jeep Tour

11 Sep

Ken and I are fans of the Breaking Bad TV series that follows the story of Walter White, a chemistry teacher in Albuquerque, NM.  There was no better way for us to spend a day in Albuquerque than to take a tour of the Breaking Bad locations.  There were several companies offering Breaking Bad tours, but, we decided to do a self-guided tour of the film locations. I did all the research, Ken plugged the addresses into the GPS, and off we went on our own Breaking Bad Jeep Tour.

The last stop on our tour was Twisters, which played home to Gus Fring’s crystal meth front, Los Pollos Hermanos.  The interior remains almost exactly the same as it appears on-screen.  There were a few Los Pollos Hermanos signs hanging in the restaurant and a TV playing Breaking Bad episodes.  Ken and I ordered the All American Burger Basket with fries and drinks.  The food was very good!

When we finished our tour, we drove to Old Town Albuquerque to seek out The Candy Lady.  I had read that the blue crystal meth used in the show was a rock candy created by a local candy maker. We located the store and had a surprise experience once inside the store.  There was a photo-op off to the side in the stockroom.  The attached photo describes the photo-op better than words!

It is worth noting that since the Breaking Bad Series concluded, we have become Better Call Saul fans.  We checked out a few of those locations, too!  Ken even bought a Better Call Saul t-shirt.

I think Ken and I can both agree that the each of the locations we visited weren’t the most interesting, but we had fun driving around to see each of them. Taking photos and being able to document our Breaking Bad tour was just one of the highlights of our adventure.
