Day 4 June 1, 2014

4 Jun

Grand Junction, CO

Today was our 2nd day in Grand Junction.  Upon a recommendation from our friends, Paul and Kathy, we drove West to the small town of Palisade,CO.

Palisade is in a fruit-growing region along the Colorado River.  The region is well known for its Peaches.  Apples, Apricots, Cherries, and Plums are also plentiful.  As we drove along on the  Fruit and Wine Byway, we past many roadside fruit stands…unfortunately, this is the wrong season for fruit.

Vineyards flourish in this region and Palisade is home to several Wineries.  The wineries produce grape wines and wine made from other fruit.  We visited the Talon Winery and St. Kathyrn Cellars and enjoyed their complimentary Wine Tasting…5 tastes each of both traditional and fruit wine were offered.  Ken and I liked the fruit wines and tasted the Apple, Peach, Blueberry, lavender, and Moscato.  Wine tasting was very popular among tourists, today!

Back in Grand Junction, we drove around the town.  It looked as though the “Rehab Addict” had been at work.  We enjoyed looking at the old houses that had been restored and saw several homes undergoing the restoration process.

In downtown, Grand Junction, we spotted the Rockslide Brewery, a micro brewery,  with its inviting outside patio.  We tried the Kokopelli Cream and Widowmaker Wheat Beers.  What a beautiful day for the patio!

Back at the RV, we continued to enjoy the Colorado sunshine and warm temperature!

Tomorrow – East to Glenwood Springs and South toward Aspen, CO
