Day 3 May 31, 2014

1 Jun

Blanding, UT to Grand Junction, CO

After a great night’s sleep, we packed up and hit the road before 10 AM. It was a beautiful day…not a cloud in sight…as we left Blanding, UT. We had a slight problem with one of our jacks not fully retracting. Ken was sure that once we were on the road and hit a slight bump that the jack would retract. In the meantime, waiting for the bump, we were entertained with a ding-ding-ding-ding etc. Finally, we realized that the road was smoother than expected so we pulled over and lowered and retracted the jacks. Voila! We are still smarter than the machine!
Leaving Blanding, UT

Driving north towards Moab, UT was beautiful. We drove on the edge of Canyon Lands National Park getting a taste of the spectacular terrain. We will have to make another trip to get a closer look.

Moab,UT is the starting point for various outdoor sport enthusiasts. The town was hopping with Jeeps, ATV’s, bicyclists, and rafters.

Arches National Park is located 5 miles from Moab and contains the largest number of stone arches in the US. As we left Moab, we drove on the edge of the park. We stopped at Wilson Arch…along with many other tourists.

Grand Junction, CO was our destination and we checked into the KOA for 2 nights. After settling into our campsite, we unhitched the Jeep for more travel. The Colorado National Monument is canyon country. We drove the Rim Rock Drive, known as one of the most scenic drives in the American West. Along the drive we stopped at several pull-outs to view the towering rock sculptures and deep canyon. Amazingingly beautiful AND quiet!

Returning to the KOA, We stopped at the grocery store and picked up our first Corn on the Cob…it was delicious!

Tomorrow we are going to check out some more local attractions! Maybe a Winery or two?
