Good-bye Texas

19 Feb

Tuesday was our last full day in and around Fredericksburg.  We planned to return to Fredericksburg and tour the Museums, but the weather was too beautiful to stay indoors.

After spending the morning around the RV resort, we headed to Fredericksburg for Lunch.  Cranky Franks Barbecue Company was our destination.  It was a place with a weird name, and a hill country-outdoor-seating-paper-plate kind of atmosphere….but, the BBQ was awesome!  We followed the directions…Pick your meat, fill up your sides…Ken and I both selected the Beef Brisket Sandwich and were given the choice of lean or “marbled”(code for fattier).  I am not sure what Ken ordered, but it was great! I understand that on most days the order line is very long and many times they run out of brisket.  We were fortunate that it was not crowded for our first time visit!

On our way back to the motorhome, we stopped to look at a Cross on a hilltop at Kerrville. On 23 acres of land visible from Interstate Highway 10, at the same latitude as Israel and mid-way between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, we visited the Sculpture Prayer Garden.  The focal point was a reddish-brown contemporary sculpture named “The Empty Cross.” The two million dollar landmark weighs 77 tons and stands 77 feet 7 inches tall. It was erected by The Coming King Foundation for the express purpose of drawing people to God and blessing all those who visit the prayer garden.

It was very quiet and peaceful as we walked around the garden reading the 77 Biblical scriptures etched into ceramic tiles.  I am definitely glad we stopped!

On Wednesday, it was 43 degrees and sunny as we left the Texas Hill Country.  We plan to be back home in Tempe, AZ on Saturday.  We still have part of Texas and New Mexico before we get back to Arizona.  We have planned stops in Fort Stockton TX, Las Cruces NM, and Tucson AZ.

It will be great to be back home after being gone for 66 days!
