Welcome to Fredericksburg

18 Feb

Today was cloudy and 63 degrees as we drove from Killeen TX south through Johnson City, Stonewall, Fredericksburg and ending in Kerrville, TX.  We wanted to stay and play in Fredericksburg, but the RV Parks were all full, so we ended up with a reservation at the Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville…25 miles from Fredericksburg.

Buckhorn Lake Resort is truly a “Resort”.  It has well manicured sites and all the extras designed for rallies and high-end, long-term stays: a fitness room, day spa, store, pristine common areas, swimming pools, spas, laundry rooms. One loop of the park is an “adults only” area. Very impressive.

After check-in we returned to Fredericksburg and joined 100’s of other tourists walking in and out of the shops on main street.  The town was exceptionally crowded due to Valentine’s Day and the long President’s weekend.

Founded in 1846 by German immigrants, Fredericksburg is charming, welcoming, and pretty. The main street is lined with restaurants, historic buildings, museums, art galleries, and antiques stores. Most of the buildings are beautiful stone structures, many made from white granite. The Chamber of Commerce folks claim there 350 places to stay, 70 restaurants, and hundreds of stores are here to keep you entertained. Literally dozens of wineries and wine testing rooms call the area home, too.

We have 4 days to enjoy Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. Happy Valentine’s Day!
