Welcome to Florida

21 Dec

Locating a good place to stop for the night is my least favorite part of traveling by RV.  When we began camping, it didn’t seem so hard.  Today, we have all sorts of tools to help us make a decision, but, they only seem to complicate the process.  There are several Apps that provide ratings and reviews, but, not everyone has the same likes, dislikes, and opinions.  I picked an RV Resort in Comfort, TX that had great reviews, but it was not a good fit for us…literally.  We had trouble getting in and out of our assigned site!  After that experience, I was a little gun-shy of selecting a place for the next night in Sulphur,LA.  Typically, I would not pick a place named A+Motel and RV Park (most Motel/RV parks leave something to be desired), but, this place had good reviews…some said it was the best place they had ever stayed.  Really??  We gave it a try and this time the reviews were spot on!  The lobby area and park grounds were meticulous.  The concrete pads were spacious and level.  The wi-fi was super fast.  Our neighbors were friendly, too!  That was all we needed to make our stay comfortable.  The RV Park had other amenities too numerous to list that will give this park a place on our preferred list.

We decided to get up early and leave Sulphur, LA at 8AM for a long day’s drive to Navarre Beach, FL    We made 2 stops along the way, the first one for lunch and the second at the Florida Welcome Center.  It is our tradition to stop at the welcome center for a taste of Florida Orange Juice!  Also, we usually stock up on all sorts of pamphlets and books, but decided we didn’t need any this time.  We did find a new attraction inside the Welcome Center…a free photo booth with a choice of fun photo backgrounds.  I also got a free coupon for a Shutterfly Photo Book…that was worth the visit!

Today’s 8 hour drive took us through Baton Rouge, LA, around Lake Ponchatrain on the north side of New Orleans, through Mobile, AL, and past Pensacola, FL before arriving at Navarre Beach around 4 PM.  Our destination in Navarre Beach is The Emerald Beach RV Park,  another great place that is on our preferred list of places to stay.  We were lucky to get a spot for two nights during the holiday season.  After checking in, we were surprised to see a few empty spaces!  I am sure that it will begin to fill up fast!

We took a nice evening walk around the park and to the Beach Area.  We just missed the sunset, but enjoyed seeing the RV Park Christmas Decorations.  Many of the RV’s had lights and decorations, too!
