Madison

Wisconsin welcomed us with cool Temperatures and cloudy skies.  The early morning temps hovered around 57 degrees…quite a change from the 80’s and 90’s!

Traveling on Interstate 94, we stopped to stretch our legs at rest area 54 noted as a scenic overlook.  The overlook was no where in sight as we exited the coach. We trekked over to the other side of the rest area and stumbled across a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Tribute.   It is dedicated to the past, present, and future generations of law enforcement officers as a “Living Memorial”. It stands in recognition of the achievements of these officers in service to their communities.  I took Ken’s picture as he proudly stood next to the United States Department of Justice marker.  Continuing on to the other side of rest area, we finally found a trail leading to the scenic overlook.  It was an easy 1/2 mile trail and we needed the exercise!  The trail was better than the scenery!

Our destination for the day was Madison, WI.   After settling into our RV Park, we set out as tourists in Madison.  We explored the State Capitol, University of Wisconsin, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Airplane House.

The State Capitol building sits on an isthmus between the waters of Lake Menona and Lake Mendota.  The 2,500 ton capitol dome dominates the city skyline.  We were told that the capitol building was a “must see” in Madison and we were not disappointed.

As we  drove through The University of Wisconsin campus we were amazed at the enormous size!  The campus is on the shores of Lake Mendota and occupies 936 acres. The university is home to approximately 45,000 students and it seemed as though they were all out and about  as we tried to drive through the different sections of campus.

Next on our agenda was the “Airplane House”  at 120 Ely Place in  University Heights, a quaint, upscale neighborhood.  The house is a 1908 Frank Lloyd Wright design built for a law professor at the university.  We have seen several Frank Lloyd Wright homes through the years and this home is another fine example of his work.

Visiting with Friends

Traveling through Wisconsin gave us an opportunity to visit friends in western Wisconsin.  They are fellow Tiffin Owners and have a winter home in Arizona…we call them snowbirds!   We met Paul and Kathy two years ago in Quartzite, AZ and continued our friendship.  They offered to let us stay (in our coach) on their property if we were ever in their area.  Yes, we took them up on the offer!  Their beautiful home site provided a  great place to park our coach and boy did it have a picturesque view!  We were entertained with deer sightings in the morning and evening!  We even had a Chef prepared dinner It was a fun-filled time with good friends!  We are looking forward to seeing them in AZ this winter.
